Description

Notre-Dame de Paris was built between 1163 and 1245 on the Île de la Cité, the Cathedral of Notre-Dame de Paris is one of the oldest Gothic cathedrals in the world. It is dedicated to the Virgin Mary. During its eight centuries of existence, the Cathedral of Notre Dame has been reformed several times. The most important reform was in the middle of the 19th century. Over the years, the buttresses were replaced, a rose window was added to the south, the chapels were renovated and statues were added. Important events have been celebrated inside Notre Dame, among the most important: the coronation of Napoleon Bonaparte, the canonization of Joan of Arc and the coronation of Henry VI of England. On April 15, 2019, the Cathedral of Notre Dame suffered a serious fire that caused extensive damage to the roof and brought down the needle of the main tower.
