The Torre del Homenaje was built in the 10th century and completely rebuilt in ashlar masonry in the 15th century at the time of the Catholic Monarchs. It seems that it was built as the first element of a reform project that was to affect the entire castle, but it was not completed since after the dynastic union of the kings of Castile and Aragon, and the consequent loss of the border character of Requena, they didn't make it necessary. Over time it has been used as a watchtower, as a prison, as a Municipal Museum and also as an Exhibition Hall.
Currently the Torre del Homenaje houses an Interpretation Center that allows us to know the history of Requena from its origins to the present.
La Torre del Homenaje fue construida en el siglo X y reconstruida totalmente en sillería en el siglo XV en la época de los Reyes Católicos. Parece ser que se construyó como el primer elemento de un proyecto de reforma que debía afectar a todo el castillo pero no fue completado, ya que tras la unión dinástica de los reyes de Castilla y Aragón y la consiguiente perdida del carácter fronterizo de Requena no lo hicieron necesario. A lo largo del tiempo ha sido utilizada como torre vigía, como prisión, como Museo Municipal y también como Sala de Exposiciones.
Actualmente la Torre del Homenaje alberga un Centro de Interpretación que nos permite conocer la historia de Requena desde sus orígenes hasta la actualidad.
