Surrounded by orange trees and in the middle of the marshland, one of the most attractive natural enclaves of Gandia, is L´Alquería del Duc, an old medieval fortified farmhouse built during the 14th century, which served as a summer residence for the Dukes of Borja and later became a stately farmhouse for recreation and hunting.
It is a sturdy building with thick walls, square floor plan, two storeys topped with an Arabic tile roof with wooden beams and a central interior courtyard.
The building cannot be visited, as it is currently a tourist training centre of the Generalitat Valenciana, but it is certainly worth a visit from the outside. In the surrounding grounds we find the archaeological site of an ancient early Christian necropolis and the Interpretation Centre Aula Natura Marjal de Gandia.
Rodeada de naranjos y en pleno marjal, uno de los enclaves naturales más atractivos de Gandia, se halla L´Alquería del Duc, una antigua alquería medieval fortificada construida durante el siglo XIV, que sirvió como residencia de verano de los duques de Borja y que más tarde se convertiría en alquería señorial de recreo y caza. Se trata de un robusto edificio de gruesos muros, con planta cuadrada, dos alturas rematadas con techo de teja árabe con vigas de madera y un patio interior central.
El edificio no es visitable, ya que actualmente es un centro de formación turística de la Generalitat Valenciana, pero sin duda merece su visita exterior. En los alrededores encontramos el yacimiento arqueológico de una antigua necrópolis paleocristiana y el Centro de Interpretación Aula Natura Marjal de Gandia.
