Description

The church was enlarged and substantially renovated in 1965. In the 1980s it was restored.

The church is located on the outskirts of the town, next to the old cemetery, in the municipality of Algemesí. It originally had a smaller volume and a very different appearance from what it looks like at the beginning of the 21st century. It was also whitewashed, which was modified to a simple plastering without additional ornamentation.

The surrounding area of the church is covered with trees, some of which are very close to the side walls. The building itself is rectangular in plan, and is notable for its height in proportion to its width. Five buttresses protrude from the sides.

The façade has a rectangular, double-leaf door with a shutter. On either side of it and about sixty centimetres above the lintel are two wrought-iron lampposts. Directly above the door was a ceramic altarpiece that was temporarily removed. On the upper part of the façade there is a flared window. A belfry with a bell rises above the straight cornice.

The roof is gabled. Two small roofs at a lower height cover the lateral spaces, located on both sides between the third and fifth buttresses.

The interior is neoclassical in style. It is rectangular in plan, but the last two sections between buttresses contain four chapels, two on each side. The sacristy is next to the chancel. The image of the patron saint is in a niche in the Renaissance altarpiece. The church is covered by a barrel vault with splayed arches supported by attached pilasters.
