Description

The Albacete Fair is held annually from September 7 to 17 in honor of the Virgen de los Llanos. It takes place mainly in the area of more than 180,000 m² comprising the Fairgrounds of Albacete (Cultural Interest Asset with the category of monument), the Fairgrounds, the Ejidos de la Feria and the Bullring of Albacete, in the traditional Feria neighborhood of the capital of Albacete, in the heart of the city. With one of the best bullfighting fairs in Spain, the Albacete Bullfighting Fair, and hundreds of activities 24 hours a day, the city gets to quadruple its population during the course of the Fair. In 2019 it had 2 500 000 visitors.

The origin of the Fair of Albacete, was in the year 1375, when the Marquis of Villena, Don Alfonso de Aragon allows its segregation of Chinchilla and becomes Villa. This title of villazgo is the one that officially confers the right to celebrate an annual fair.
From its beginnings, it has been a regional, commercial and trade fair, guarantor of uses, customs and traditions, being today the result of its logical temporal, cultural, economic and social evolution.
On March 6, 1710, King Philip V, granted the privilege of free fair for a period of 4 days. In 1783 it was agreed to build a building dedicated exclusively to the annual celebration of the Fair in the threshing floors of Santa Catalina.
The Fairground, also called the Frying Pan, was inaugurated on September 7, 1783. In 1912 the modernist kiosk in the central circle was built, which is still preserved today, the Templete de la Feria. The Fair ceased to be held between 1937 and 1938 due to the Spanish Civil War.
In 1944, expansion works were carried out, adding the third circle of the Frying Pan, the exhibition hall and the two pavilions of the entrance promenade.
