Description

Faroto Indians lived in the vicinity of Mompox, in the neighboring department of Bolívar, where the town of Talaigua is located; it is a zone very rich in gold that attracted the Spanish conquerors. When the men of the tribe went out to hunt, the invaders entered their huts to rape their women until the farotos rebelled and conceived a plan to stop this vexation. The cacique chose the twelve fiercest warriors and dressed them in the clothes worn by the Spanish women.
In the end, to complete thirteen, he joined the avengers. When the Spaniards returned, they were immediately ambushed and executed. Never again were the abuses against the women of the tribe repeated.
